Let’s talk about Wimberley’s very own Lodge at Cypress Falls!

The Lodge at Cypress Falls is a 22 room hill country retreat that was built in 1949. It’s a fun mix of vintage motel vibes and summer camp wholesomeness. The Lodge has an on-site bar, small restaurant, and event center (perfect for weddings!). Walking a bit down the trail takes you past communal fire pits to the Cypress Falls swimming hole. Dogs are welcome!

While this was a hosted stay, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

We spent our first night at the on-site bar, Dark Skies Tavern, and had a blast. There’s often live music and, believe it or not, Country Music greats like Willie Nelson & George Strait have played here in the past! There are also free s’mores packets you can pick up from the front lobby to use at their fire pits. We definitely made one every night! The next morning, we slept in and went to The Lodge at Cypress Falls‘ on-site restaurant, The Falls Bistro & Kitchen. The menu is pretty extensive and serves food from breakfast through dinner. I highly recommend the pancakes and sausage patties. Those were my favorite!

After breakfast we went with Sterling Tours to downtown Wimberley! Our tour bus, named “Jolene” was SO cute. Our driver, Greg, had plenty of facts about Wimberley to share with us.

Our trip was short, but long enough to get me interested – I have to go back soon! We did manage to make two stops – one to the Old Mill Store and one to Ceremony. The Old Mill Store, one of the oldest buildings in Wimberley, has a huge collection of handmade gifts, furniture, jewelry, art, and collectables from the Texas Hill Country and beyond.

Ceremony is an epic botanical studio just across from the Old Mill Store. The number of plants they have in there is incredible! I was in heaven. We ended up with some flower bulbs and a Chinese money plant, but we could have done a LOT more damage. I’ll be back for sure.

UPDATE: I’ve since been back to Wimberley and ate at Creekhouse, the perfect spot to eat alongside Cypress Creek in downtown. They’ve got a limited amount of reservations each day. If you don’t make one, that’s ok! Put your name in the list and then peruse the downtown Wimberley square. Their menu is super approachable, with excellent appetizers, bowls, salads, and mains that range from chicken tenders to grilled steak frites.  There’s also a good variety of drinks, including beer, wine, hot cocktails, frozen cocktails, and traditional cocktails.

After walking around downtown, we went to Roughhouse Brewing for a flight and some food. My favorite beer was their “Modern Light,” a Farmhouse Witbier. Their queso is also a must. During our visit, I was surprised to learn there’s a small cave system under the 50-acre ranch were Roughhouse Brewing sits. In it, they’re able to make spontaneous cave-aged beers. Hearing that, I had to try some, so we snagged two bottles of “Berried”, a wild ale blend with raspberries. They have some pretty cool photos on their website, if you want to see more of the cave.

The weather wasn’t quite on our side, so we chilled in their upstairs loft area, but the outdoor space is pretty incredible. I’m always a fan of big, open spaces and string lights.

After Roughhouse Brewing, we went back to The Lodge and spent the evening in the Tavern. We also made our way to the on-site Cypress Falls Event Center where we were so kindly invited to a wedding reception and live music from Sour Bridges! Wimberley, man… the people are FRIENDLY. 

The next morning, we made our way back to the Tavern yet again (are we regulars now??) for their Bloody Mary and mimosa bar. I opted for an olive flight to top my Bloody Mary and was not disappointed. 

On our way out, we stopped at the Cypress Falls swimming hole. You can pick up drinks to go while you chill by the beautiful creek. They also have tube rentals available first-come first-serve. Once the weather is warmer, this would be such a great place to hang out.

All in all, it was a pretty fun weekend. Less than an hour from Austin, I’d recommend The Lodge at Cypress Falls whenever you need a quick get away.
